Earlier this year, I attended my first Beachhead and it was fucking awesome. I got to play five rounds of my second favourite tabletop game; hang out with a lot of my hobby friends; and came third at the biggest Adeptus Titanicus tournament in the world.

While I’ve spent most of the year since tearing through any and every tournament with my Ignatum,(a 1st, a 2nd, and some top fives!) slowly, in the background I’ve been working on a new force that I plan to bring to Beachhead 2027. That is Legio Damicium – the Unbroken Lords.

Why Damicium?

I picked Legio Damicium for a few reasons. As I tell everyone that will listen, I picked Legio Ignatum as my first Legio because I loved them in Master of Mankind. Their rules being S tier was just the cherry on top to me. (No one actually believes me but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it damn it.)

As I got to the end of the 6000ish points of Ignatum I’ve painted and started to get bored of painting red, I started to look for another Legio to paint, and had several criteria:

• I had to like the colours
• Their lore had to be relatively cool
• The rules had to be not-terrible (sorry Mortis)
• Ideally a traitor Legio to contrast my goody-two shoes Ignatum
• Had to Extergimus well (as my favourite and ontologically the best Maniple)

Damicium got picked out of the traitor legios book for the snazzy bone and purple colour scheme and when I made my choice known on discord Jay was happy to educate on how awesome Damicium are in general and how good they are in an Extergimus, promptly ticking the rest of my boxes.

How Damicium?

As I mentioned above, and as anyone that has spent a non-zero amount of time around me in a Titanicus related manner knows, I think rather highly of the Extergimus maniple. A lot of people see it as a big hammer maniple – all in on brute force at the expense of everything else. While I wouldn’t disagree per se, I feel more like the conductor of an orchestra – carefully managing the crescendo of firepower by titan tempered by the reactor management needed to keep heat in reserve for other purposes – or choose to forgo caution all together – sacrificing what I can do next turn to bring more firepower to bear this turn. It’s a beautiful balancing act in my opinion and in a lot of cases, sometimes a big enough hammer is all you need.

When Damicium?

The first tournament they’ll be on the table for is the Beachhead Warmup at 2000 points – more or less the maniple at the top of this article. They will of course be reinforced ready for Beachhead next year (and maybe Retribution in a few weeks if I can pull my finger out!). What those reinforcements are, and what I will be bringing to Beachhead will likely remain under wraps a little bit longer. I have my eyes on improving my standings at Beachhead next year and I’m sure I’ll be up against some tough competition. No point giving them any advantage I don’t need to :).
