”I think the best way to tell a story is by starting at the end, briefly, then going back to the beginning, and then periodically returning to the end, maybe giving different characters’ perspectives throughout. Just to give it a bit of dynamism, otherwise it’s just sort of a linear story.” – David Ershon
So, as I am not at ‘the end’ of my Adeptus Titanicus journey, I will have to substitute ‘end’ for the middle – or whatever term one might find appropriate for where I now find myself collection-wise.
I currently have, as I would describe it, one ‘Complete’ force* and three growing forces… four! I start again! Four growing forces IF we count Knight Households. I have recently been looking around for blogs or sites dedicated to the collecting of and/or playing of Adeptus Titanicus.
Pickings were slim.
As I find any that are still ‘active’ I will endeavour to shout them out or provide links as I am able, but, without inspiration from other, better minds, it is with a heavy heart and sigh that I must accept the unpalatable. I needed to start my own.
So, where to begin?
I started collecting AT18 on something of a whim. Having largely stopped playing tabletop games and having stopped purchasing or painting everything besides Necromunda, I just wasn’t feeling any sparks or ‘pull’ as I used to.
As it was, I was in the early stages of purchasing a house with my wife and required something to focus on in downtime – painting or playing games being my default stress relievers. I was flicking through an old issue of White Dwarf and found myself looking at the titans from an Adeptus Titanicus article, no longer sneering at them as ‘Not Epic40k’ but with interest. I dug back through my previous issues until I found one with a battle report and I read it. Twice. As I read and tried to comprehend such mechanics as firing arcs, ‘servitor clades’, ‘Void Shield’ and ‘Reactor Heat’ I felt it. It was then that I knew that I wanted to try this game.
A starter box, Precept Maniple box, an additional Warbringer (and half a dozen orders for arms and weapons with no rules from the excellent BattleBling store that looked amazing) arrived and I was hooked. The models were fantastic to build – not the Reavers, they are tolerable, at best. As I set up the table to try my first foray into the most basic rules with my long-suffering wife (Reaver and Warhound a side) I felt the type of excitement and interest I hadn’t felt since 2nd Edition 40k or the original run of Necromunda and Warhammer Quest… or Mordheim and GorkaMorka and Battlefleet Gothic etc – basically the Specialist games products.
What do I hope to achieve with this blog?
More than anything, I wanted a reason/excuse to document the collection I continue to amass and detail the reasons and rationales behind it. I wanted somewhere to add pictures taken of my models and a reason to put more effort into taking better quality pictures. I wanted somewhere that I could put down my thoughts about this amazing system and the fantastic community that surrounds it and perhaps even to provide myself with the occasional self-congratulatory pat on the back as I up my game on the painting and the gaming scene.
If I can work out how, I’ll add a picture of my very first Titan – a Mortis Reaver.
